Ashtanga vinyasa yoga is a system of asana (posture) in which movement and breathing work together as one. Over time – and persistent regular practice – this co-ordination brings focus and steadiness of mind.
The system was developed by a teacher and scholar from Mysore, South India – Sri K Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009).
You can still go to his family’s yoga school in Mysore to practise – it is now run by his grandson R. Sharath Jois. I go once a year if I can.
