Huston Smith

American yogi

It’s 1959 – and professor of theology Huston Smith appears on America’s public TV network to introduce viewers to the Bhagavad Gita.

This image says so much. It sums up a turning point in American history.  Change is on the way, and Professor Huston Smith, with his blackboard and map, is a herald.

You can read more about Huston Smith in The Harvard Psychedelic Club by Don Lattin, which tells the story of a remarkable quartet of friends: Timothy Leary, Ram Dass/Richard Alpert, Huston Smith and Andrew Weil.
